Our New Kitchen Design

Easily the most exciting part of the home to design. Also easily the most stressful when it’s actually YOUR home.

The kitchen layout in this home was tweaked a couple times to make a large kitchen window, expansive island and focal range wall. After having our sink in the island, I swore I wouldn’t do that again. So our island will not have a sink or an appliance – it will be one large beauty with storage and ample seating for our family to gather.

We worked with a few amazing brands to put together the best package for our home and how we’ll use it. We worked with our friends at Ferguson and Kohler for a stunning plumbing package – so our kitchen porcelain apron front sink and pull down sprayer faucet will be Kohler. We worked with Aggressive Appliances to get an amazing Sub Zero / Wolf appliance package – panel ready refrigerator, dishwasher and refrigerator drawers will be in the main kitchen while the microwave and wine fridge will be stainless steel and in the pantry.

AND THEN… we worked with the lovely folks at Lacanche to design a custom range that will be the center piece of our kitchen. Nick designed the cook top layout and burner configuration (he’s the chef in the house) and then I chose the color and accents (matte black/brass) which will be shipping from France THIS month! *pinch me*

We’re doing an off white perimeter cabinet with a stained white oak island. We’ve partnered with Caesarstone for our tops and selected a beautiful (goes with absolutely everything) Calacatta Nuvo Honed Quartz (no more marble this time, too much work and not worth the anxiety!) and then a stunning Pietra Cardosa natural stone honed counter for the island mitered to make it a thick custom piece. Most of the hardware will be brass, but we might mix it up and add black to the island. Decisions decisions.

Our backsplash will be the Calacatta Nuvo Honed Quartz with a bit of t&g and floating shelves at the sink wall. Drywall cubbies will flank the range wall and it’s long horizontal drywall hood – the splash will also be counter material for a seamless look.

With only one large brass pendant over the island it will help highlight the island but also the stunning range when you look directly into the kitchen from the dining room or main living room.

We’ve already stocked up on kitchen accents from McGee & Co. but the finishing touch will the be the Loloi (Claire – Sunset) Runner they are gifting us to go in front of the Lacanche range! GUYS, I like loveeeeee their rugs.

And to top it off we’ll be working with the Neat Method on organizing our kitchen and pantry to make sure everything has a nice tidy place. We don’t have a lot of uppers in this house, but we do have a pantry so working with the Neat Method from the get go will be super useful and productive.

I’ll be sharing more of the build process on Instagram – follow along here for more behind the scenes and real time updates.
