Gernerts took Vermont

Nick went up for a work trip for 4 days and since he’s been traveling a bit (and I think feels bad) convinced us to meet him up there for some solid family time.

Hudson was such the best little traveler and honestly, the overall trip was delight. Besides Hudson getting sick and getting caught in the rain – we thoroughly enjoyed the fresh mountain air, breweries and lack of cell service.

Even though the place we stayed at wasn’t what we thought, it was still nice. 506 On The River Inn was close to Farmhouse Pottery (literally walking distance) and only a few minutes from downtown Woodstock and Long Trail Brewing. We tried the Woodstock Inn but there weren’t any vacancies. Maple Leaf Inn looked really cute, too.

We were super surprised of the beer scene and the awesome food. I was in awe of the hills, the sweetness in the mountain air and the super friendly people. I think the farm was a definite highlight!

But in regards to places to visit and eat – here’s a short but a really good list:

Prohibition Pig in Waterbury (between Burlington and Woodstock) – great brewery with amazing food. Their Staff Salad and Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout was SO SO good.

Long Tail Brewing Company – it’s literally riverside, which is super great for families. You can take down a plastic cup and skip some rocks with your kids. Staff is super friendly and food is decent.

Billings Farm – a must do! The most gorgeous dairy farm – the grounds are insanely well kept, the people are super nice and informative and the ability to get up close and personal with their animals was so much fun. Hudson didn’t want to leave. For a family of 3 it was $30 – stay as long as you want.

Ben & Jerry’s Waterbury Factory – a total tourist trap, but still worth it. Try to not go on the weekend as it gets packed, but the ice cream is so good and they have a playground, cows and a “flavor graveyard” their gift shop is cute with tie-die shirts but just a heads up some steep hills.

Mont Verd Cafe – we didn’t go, but it looks like a total gem.
